Recently, our dedicated Pothole Repair team has been out in full force, taking their specialised equipment to the streets to address some of the most treacherous road conditions in our local area. What began as a proactive response to witnessing the deteriorating condition of Acutts Drive near Le Domaine Estate has blossomed into a community-driven initiative that is transforming lives across multiple residential areas, including Clifton Hills Estate and surrounding neighbourhoods in Hillcrest.
At Super Tyres, we have always believed that our responsibility to our customers doesn’t end the moment you drive out of one of our fitment centres with a new set of wheels. Our mission has always been about safety, reliability, and ensuring that every journey you take is as smooth as possible. However, as any driver knows, even the best tyres in the world are no match for the “silent killers” of our tarmac: potholes, hence our Pothole Repair team.
A Hazard for Multiple Communities
For residents and commuters using Acutts Drive, the journey had become something of a minefield. Over time, what started as small cracks had expanded into what can only be described as horrendous and dangerous potholes. These weren’t just minor inconveniences; they were significant hazards capable of causing severe structural damage to vehicles, ruining suspension systems, and, most importantly, compromising the safety of families living in the area.
The Super Tyres team recognised that local infrastructure often needs a helping hand. After witnessing the poor condition of the road and the safety risks posed to motorists and residents, our Pothole Repair team—led by Graham and his crew—decided it was time to step in. Armed with our signature red bakkie and a trailer specifically kitted out for precision road repair, the team has been hard at work, with repairs currently underway from the Inanda Road intersection.
A Genuine Community Partnership
The response from residents and estate management has been overwhelmingly positive. Frances Mans, Estate Manager of The Body Corporate of Le Domaine, has been instrumental in recognising the value of this initiative. “We would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank Super Tyres for their proactive contribution to improving road safety for all residents and road users,” Mans stated. “The Body Corporate of Le Domaine and neighbouring estates have agreed that it has been incredibly encouraging to see a local business step in voluntarily to assist.”
With 1200 ratepayers at Le Domaine alone, the initiative has brought relief to countless residents who regularly travel the route. Mans emphasised the significance of the project: “From the 1200 ratepayers at Le Domaine, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Super Tyres team for taking practical steps to make this road safer for everyone.”
More Than Just a Quick Fix
When we talk about pothole repair at Super Tyres, we don’t believe in a “patch and run” approach. Our team focuses on creating durable, lasting repairs that can withstand the weight of heavy daily traffic. By using high-quality materials and ensuring proper compaction, we aim to ensure that once a hole is filled, it stays filled.
The visual transformation on Acutts Drive has been remarkable. Where there were once jagged edges and deep pits, there is now smooth, level asphalt. For the residents of Clifton Hills Estate and neighbouring communities, this means fewer trips to the mechanic for wheel alignments and a much lower risk of a high-speed blowout or a swerve-related accident.
Heartfelt Appreciation for Pothole Repair from Local Residents

The most rewarding part of this initiative has been the overwhelming response from the community we serve. Lyn Murgatroyd, a resident of Clifton Hills Estate, has expressed her genuine appreciation for the work being carried out. “The work being done on Acutts Drive is greatly appreciated by residents in the area,” Murgatroyd explained. “Some of the potholes had become extremely dangerous, so it has been wonderful to see a local company taking action to help improve safety for everyone using the road.”
In a heartfelt message to Graham and the Pothole Repair team, Murgatroyd added: “Just a big shout and thank you to you and your team for the great work you are doing on Acutts Road filling in some very dangerous and horrendous potholes. You guys are so appreciated by all the residents of Clifton Hills Estate. Thank you and hope your business goes from strength to strength.”
Knowing that our hard work has made a tangible difference in the daily lives of people like Lyn is exactly why we started this programme. It’s a reminder that businesses have a vital role to play in supporting their local neighbourhoods.
Understanding Our Purpose
Super Tyres General Manager Nytanya Loretz explains the philosophy behind this initiative: “As a business that works closely with motorists every day, we understand the frustration, expense and safety concerns caused by potholes. While repairing roads is not part of our core business operations, we believe in doing what we can to help make a difference where possible.”
The initiative focuses primarily on smaller potholes in lower traffic residential areas where repairs can be carried out safely and effectively. “This initiative is about people,” Loretz emphasises. “Safer roads help protect families, reduce vehicle damage and improve everyday travel for entire communities. We cannot repair every pothole, but where we are able to assist, we will continue to do so.”
Getting Involved
If you’re aware of dangerous potholes in your neighbourhood, you can help us identify them. Community members are encouraged to report potholes in their area by sending a location pin and photograph via WhatsApp to 064 859 9180. Each submission is assessed by the Super Tyres team to determine whether it qualifies for repair.
Looking to the Future
As Super Tyres celebrates 55 years in business this year, initiatives like Pothole Repair remain an important reminder that businesses can play a valuable role in supporting the communities around them. “If we can help make roads safer, protect families and reduce unnecessary vehicle damage, then we know we are making a meaningful difference,” Loretz concludes.
Our ongoing commitment to road safety extends beyond our tyre fitment centres. As a tyre specialist, we see the damage that poor roads do every single day. We see the frustrated faces of drivers who have had their day ruined by a hidden crater in the road. By proactively fixing these issues, we aren’t just saving tyres; we are saving time, money, and potentially lives.
We would like to extend our thanks to the residents of Clifton Hills Estate, Le Domaine Estate, and all neighbouring communities for their patience and support whilst our teams have been working to improve road conditions. A special thank you goes to Frances Mans, estate managers, and residents like Lyn Murgatroyd for their kind words and encouragement.
At Super Tyres, we will continue to keep our eyes on the road—not just to see where you’re going, but to make sure the path is clear for you to get there safely. If you see our red pothole repair unit out and about, give Graham and the team a wave! We’re proud to be part of this community, one smooth road at a time.
