Belinda: Part of our Women’s Month feature series — Four Branches, Four Bosses
Belinda Du Plessis brings more industry experience to this series than anyone — over 25 years in total, 8 of them with Super Tyres. She is currently our BestDrive Durban Central Branch Manager. Her path started in the motor industry. “When the opportunity arose, it felt natural to walk into the tyre industry,” she says. “This allowed me to continue on my journey of growth.”
Her team would describe her as straight-talking and positive, with their interests always front of mind. “I am a very straightforward person with a positive attitude and outlook; I always look out for the team’s best interest while ensuring company policies are adhered to,” is how she puts it — fairness and structure, in equal measure.
Twenty-five years gives her a rare vantage point on how much has changed in the industry. “Initially customers were surprised to see a woman store manager,” she recalls. However, “Over the years, customers have become far more accepting; many simply appreciate receiving good service and honest advice.” It’s the clearest evidence yet in this series that the industry’s attitude has genuinely shifted, not just softened.
What keeps Belinda in it after two and a half decades? The pace, and the people. “I enjoy the fast-paced environment and an opportunity to work with both customers and an incredible team, building lifelong relationships. Every day brings challenges, and that keeps it interesting.”
Her advice to a young woman considering the industry is grounded in exactly what’s carried her this far: “Believe in yourself, be willing to learn, ask questions and work hard. Keep growing and find a mentor.”
