For the past two years, Super Tyres has been running learnerships in Wholesale and Retail Management NQF 4. This provides opportunities to those who were previously unemployed and allows them to complete a qualification while earning an income.
This qualification lays the foundation for the development of management qualifications across various sectors and industries. It specifically develops management competencies required by learners in any occupation, particularly those who are currently operating as junior managers. The qualification introduces key terms, rules, concepts, principles and practices of management that will enable learners to be informed managers in any occupation. It has also been developed to enable managers, or prospective managers, to access higher education and provide flexible access to life-long learning.
The scope of management covers four domains: leadership, self-management, people management and management practices. This qualification addresses each of these domains with generic competencies, thereby enabling learning programmes to be contextualised for specific sectors and industries. This qualification provides opportunities for people to transfer between various specialisations within management. This will therefore enable management competencies to be strengthened, and enable managers to better manage systems, processes, resources, self, teams and individuals in various occupations. It is intended to empower learners to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate confidently as individuals in the South African economy and to respond to the challenges of the economic environment and changing world of work. Ultimately, this qualification is aimed at improving the productivity and efficiency of future managers within all occupations in South Africa.
Our marathon man, Welcome Mathenjwa, ran his
first Comrades Marathon in 2018, in an incredible time of 10 hours and 35
minutes. This year, Welcome competed in the Witness Maritzburg City Marathon,
which took place on the 24th of February. He finished 296th out of a staggering
2446 participants, in a time of 3 hours 28 minutes. With this amazing
performance, Welcome has managed to qualify for this epic marathon for a second
time, and will be competing on the 9th of June 2019!
Managing director, Dean Horn, is extremely proud
of Welcome’s stellar performance, and believes that Welcome will be able to
break the 8-hour mark in this year’s marathon, a full 2 hours faster than his
Welcome says: “I’ve been doing 20km runs every
day to help with the preparation for this year’s marathon, as well as competing
in smaller competitions, such as the one that took place in Feb.” He is
extremely hopeful for his chances to surpass last years’ time with a brand-new
time of “just under the 8-hour mark,” says Welcome.
This year’s Comrades Marathon is an Up Run, and
will go past our Pinetown branch early on in the race, where all our Super
Heroes will be gathered to cheer for Welcome!
Growth is one of our Company Values, and one we certainly live and act on, says Graham Bush, General Manager. “We are constantly providing Training to our Team Members, so much so, that we have invested in our own Super Library, whereby any employee has access to nearly 100 titles, spread between, Books, DVD’s and Audio Books.
We not only focus on product training, but also invest in Soft Skills and Management Training constantly.
In February, several of our TEAM Members attended a seminar presented byActionCOACH , Darryn Le Grange. “We covered attitude and mindset, where each person had to do some self evaluation. We then covered company vision and the importance thereof. Finally – we spent 1.5 hours doing our vision boards. Vision boards are a great way to depict your dreams through pictures and images and everyone had a lot of fun cutting, pasting and sharing their dreams with all the people at their tables.” Said Darryn.
Family is important because it provides love,
support and a framework of values to each of its members. At Super Tyres, we
understand that family is the most valuable gift a person can have, and that is
why we make it a priority to celebrate it in superior fashion.
On the 9th of February 2019, the eTekweni Region held its Family Day celebrations at the Northwood Crusaders in Durban. The event was attended by the staff and their families, and even invited some special guests from LIV Village (an orphanage situated just 37km outside of Durban) to take part in the day’s festivities. There were tons on activities for everyone to enjoy, including face-painting and jumping castles for the children (and some of the adults too)! The staff, their family members and the children from LIV Village had an amazing time at the event!
On the 2nd of March, it was Zululand’s turn to celebrate the gift of family. The event was hosted at the ZCBF Community Park, in Richards Bay. Amazing children’s entertainment and face-painting was provided by the wonderful team at Ocean Audio!
Thank you to everyone at Super Tyres for sharing
and celebrating the gift of family!
The Free State Region recently honoured 3 of their superheroes for their commitment to Super Tyres.
From Left to right: Charl, from the VW branch, marked 5 years with the company. Next to our Regional Manager, Wesley, Joseph also reached his 5-year milestone. Jappie (far right), from our Audi joint venture, also reached 5 years of service.
Vincent Pienaar, salesman at the A51 Audi Centre in Bloemfontein – one of our joint ventures – tied the knot this year! This hero, who has been part of our family for just over a year and a half, gathered friends and family together to witness his union with his sweetheart, Jana Pienaar, on the 2nd of February. Our regional manager, Wesley Crowder (far right), attended the glittering ceremony. Congratulations Vincent!
the 13th of March 2019, a few of our Super Heroes from various
branches went on a Health & Safety training course, held at the Netcare
Education KZN Campus.
The first session of the day was an informative
lesson, which focused on gaining an understanding of the OHS Act and the
regulations in respect of, amongst others, electrical plugs and wiring, fire
extinguishers, Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.), machine guards, medical
testing, hazardous chemical substances, emergency procedures, ventilation,
noise and basic risk assessments.
The second session of the day, which took place
after a wonderful and much-needed lunch break, focused on making sure everyone
was properly certified and competent to undertake their duties and
responsibilities in such a manner that it takes the workload off the employer
and ensures that the Health and Safety function runs smoothly. This session
also included Incident Investigation training.
Thank you, Netcare, for taking care of our Super Heroes! And thank you to everyone who participated in this training course! We hope it was informative and helpful!
Super Tyres, we understand the difference between training and
development. A training programme
enables us to strengthen those skills that each employee needs to improve
themselves, whereas a development programme brings all employees to a higher
level, so that they all have similar skills and knowledge. This helps to reduce
any weak links within the company who rely heavily on others to complete basic
The Sales Guru Seminar, held in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town
in February 2019, was absolutely world-class! It was a once-in-a-life time
opportunity for some of our key Managers to hear the real-world success story
of Robbie Robberts, South Africa’s greatest car salesman, and Joey Evans’
incredible journey from paraplegic to completing the Dakar rally.
Everyone who attended the event had an amazing time! Looking forward to the next one!
